Kate Mulgrew’s professional career as an actor began in 1975 when she portrayed Mary Ryan in a soap opera titled “Ryan’s Hope” of the ABC TV network. While working for “Ryan’s Hope,” she also worked in a theatre named “Our Town” in Stratford city of Connecticut. In an episode of “Dallas” released in November 1978, she played the role of a country singer named Garnet McGee. From 1979 to 1980, she worked in an American crime and drama TV series called “Mrs. Columbo.” In 1981, she worked in a fantasy romantic tragedy film titled “Lovespell.”

While she was in New York, she had to work as a waitress to earn money. At the age of 22, she got pregnant but didn’t reveal the name of the baby’s father.
