Career
In 1984, Hatcher joined the Gold Rush, the cheerleading squad for the San Francisco 49ers NFL team and later went to Hollywood to accompany a friend on an open casting call. Teri auditioned and was cast on “The Love Boat,” then played actress Penny Parker on six episodes of the ABC series “MacGyver” between 1986 and 1990. Around this time, she also guest-starred on “Night Court” (1987), “Star Trek: The Next Generation” (1989), “L.A. Law” (1989), “Murphy Brown” (1990), and “Tales from the Crypt” (1990) and had recurring roles on “Capitol” (1986–1987) and “Karen’s Song” (1987). Hatcher ended the 1980s by booking her first two film roles: Gretchen in “The Big Picture” and Katherine “Kiki” Tango in “Tango & Cash.” In 1991, she co-starred with Sally Field and Kevin Kline in “Soapdish,” appeared in the TV movies “The Brotherhood” and “Dead in the Water,” and had a leading role on the CBS series “Sunday Dinner.”

Teri married Marcus Leithold on June 4, 1988, and they divorced a year later. She went on to wed actor Jon Tenney on May 27, 1994, and they welcomed daughter Emerson on November 10, 1997. Hatcher and Tenney split up in 2003, and they agreed to joint custody of Emerson. While filming “Desperate Housewives,” Teri broke two ribs during a pole-dancing scene, and in a separate incident, suffered a scratched cornea after a lightbulb exploded near her. Hatcher has supported several charities, including the Make a Wish Foundation, and her support of the Aviva Family and Children’s Services center earned her a “Spirit of Compassion” Award in 1996 and an Aviva “Impact” Award in 2010. She also received a “Noble Award” at the 2009 Noble Humanitarian Awards.
